Main components or parts of an automobile

In the previous post i discussed little about automobiles and its brief history. Since every machine, motor, etc have different parts to run it or get it to work. Like a compressor has a cylinder, a piston, inlet/outlet ports. Similarly Automobiles have different parts or "auto parts" in short.

Engine:

 

Engine is the source of power by which an automobile moves. It is heart of an automobile. All the vehicles built using internal combustion engines. Engine converts heat energy using fuel to the mechanical power.

Frame:

 Frame is the structure on which every component of automobile is fitted like engine, transmission system etc and further this frame is supported by wheel axles using springs. This whole arrangement that is fitted over frame is called chassis.

Transmission System or Power Train:

 

It is one of the most important part of an automobile. It transmit the power from the engine to the wheels at different torque as required. It includes clutch, gear box, propeller shaft, differential etc.

Steering System:

 Steering system gives a direction to the vehicle . It consist of a steering wheel that is controlled by driver of vehicle and every other part of the steering system is further controlled by steering wheel using different mechanisms like above picture have rack and pinion mechanism.

Braking System:

 Brakes oppose the motion of automobile that makes the wheels to stop. It retards the motion of an automobile. Usually brakes are applied to the front wheels only but hand brake which controls the motion of rear wheels is applied when required like in emergency.

Suspension System:

 Suspensions system is used to absorb the shocks and vibrations that are occurring due to irregularities on the road. It play important role in passenger's comfort. It is installed on every automobile on the wheel axle. Shock Absorbers, Springs, leaf springs are part of suspension system.

Car accessories:

Car accessories includes head lights, indicators, music system, speedometer etc. Some of the accessories are necessary but some are just for passenger's comfort or leisure.
