Finally, Ford announced the launch of its stunning and revolutionary compact SUV, Ford EcoSport in India on 26th June, 2013. It is much awaited car in India after the Ford showcased its concept in India on 4th Jan, 2012 and after a year, Ford revealed Indian version of Ford Ecosport in Mumbai on 15th Mar, 2013.
Ford EcoSport will be produced at Chennai plant with its new production line which is one of the five production lines where the EcoSport is being produced. Ford invested $142 million (US Dollars) and 21 months hard work to expand capacity and improve production line flexibility at its Ford India manufacturing plant in Chennai. This production line is capable of producing six different types of car bodies on one line which can boost the production of the EcoSport in India.
Joginder Singh, president and managing director of Ford India said "The excitement and anticipation around the EcoSport is unprecedented. We are extremely gratified with the response from Indian consumers for this vehicle. The dedicated men and women of Ford India are working very hard to exceed customer expectations, and our dealers have begun accepting EcoSport bookings". He also stated "These advanced manufacturing technologies and methods show how we’re bringing our best global practices to India, building vehicles to the highest global standards and at the same time, we are making a positive impact on the community here in Chennai".
Ford EcoSport will be available in four variants with three different engine options 1.0 L EcoBoost, 1.5 TiVCT gasoline and 1.5 L TDCi diesel engine with 5 speed manual and 6 speed dual clutch transmissions. EcoSport will come with SYNC which is first to come in Indian cars. It is voice activated in-car connectivity system by which driver can control music and phone call with voice commands. Some other features that are revealed are Keyless entry, life-saving Emergency Assistance feature which automatically connects vehicle with emergency following an accident, Hill Launch Assist which helps drivers move off confidently up a slope without worrying about rolling backwards or forwards, and Electronic Stability Program. Other features and complete specification will be available on the launch of Ford EcoSport on 26th June.
Booking for Ford EcoSport is available with sum of amount Rs 50,000 with cancellation fee of Rs 3000. EcoSport is expected to launch in price range of Rs 7-10 lakh.
